Family History Centre

An integral part of the Highland Council Archive Service, is the Family History Centre, a facility dedicated to all aspects of genealogy, clan history, and family history throughout the Highlands and the wider world.

The Family History Centre in the Highland Archive Centre, InvernessThe Highland Family History Service holds and makes available records which may be of assistance to the family historian. Staff are available to offer general advice, answer enquiries and undertake more detailed research and consultations when these are required. Click here for leaflet.

Services available

The Family History Centre in Inverness is open to all free of charge.

One to one consultations are available with staff experienced in genealogical research.

Searches are carried out on behalf of members of the public who cannot visit the Family History Centre in person.

Genealogy Research Gift Vouchers are available.

There is access to the Family History Centre via stairs or a passenger lift.

Highland Council Registration Service
A member of staff from the Highland Council Registration Service is on hand to assist family history researchers with enquiries relating to births, marriages and deaths in Scotland from 1855-2010.

Highland Family History Society
The Highland Family History Society is based in the Family History Centre. Members of the Society are available to help family history researchers on Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-1pm, and 2pm-4.30pm.
